Ajuda
Located in a unique lane in Ajuda, this building of a typically Portuguese mediaeval scale includes 4 apartments of 30m2 on 2 floors.
The intervention considered two ideas: the small scale of the building and the informal way of living in such a neighborhood. In the hottest months of the year, for example, it is common practice to place the table outside and all dine together. With this lifestyle in mind, in the interior the idea was to separate spaces of different natures inside this extremely tiny space: living room (dining room/place to sleep and a place for clothes, etc.. This separation was created through the bathroom with small central cells that naturally separate both spaces: the social part with a higher ceiling facing east with white window frames and another of a more private nature, up 2 steps, with bigger windows and black window frames facing west. On the upper floor, the building was divided vertically thus creating two large, bright mezzanines with own bathroom.
